MY STORY

Hello everybody! Well my name is Mahili Soleil (Mahili is pronounced like Miley Cyrus (; ), also known under «Miel » or «Mielo », hence the name of this blog. I am a 22 years old french canadian, born and raised in the beautiful city of Montreal and I am …. WOH, Wait a minute … I would love to be able to continue this paragraph saying  »and I am an anthropologist » or  »and I’ve just graduated from university », but truth is, i’ve always had a hard time with the routine. Which means that I never actually finished any of my studies. To be honest, the school system here in Canada doesn’t really match my personnality. I just can’t handle it.

I’ve always felt this strong desire to travel. I honestly don’t know where it came from, but it was always there. When i was younger, i wanted to work in international cooperation and humanitarian. That was before I learned that it’s not as beneficial to the countries in need than the media wants us to believe. After realizing they’re were all kinds of controversies that i didn’t know about regarding my goal in life, I felt kind of disoriented. I didn’t even have any motivation to finish high school. Fortunately, I was lucky enough to have amazing people supporting me and helping me get through highschool. Being a teenager was hell of an adventure. I used to change school every year. It started in elementary school. I Just needed change. Really couldn’t deal with the routine.

For my fourth year of high school (we have 5 in Québec, Canada) I met a very special Principal, Mr. Ciarlo (probably the coolest of them all). I was a drop out and he just wouldn’t let me. He offered me a job at the school reception in exchange of me going to my classes. He sent me to some kind of school where you have private teachers and do all kinds of activities to discover new hobbies and that was waaaaaaayyyy cooler than school #toocoolforschool.

My mom decided to move out of Montreal and zooooom bought a house in the countryside for my last year of high school. She offered me to stay in montreal for my last year or to follow her to a new school. Well, I told you i like change. I followed her, but I was not gonna go back to high school. I was gonna work to go travel. When Mr. Ciarlo learned the news, he took me by the arm with a very severe look and said : «I know the school in that village, they have an international program for kids like you. I called them, you’re going to visit them next week and you are going to sign in. ». I thought Mr. Ciarlo was a bit funny thinking i would follow his order, but I went anyway without any intention of going back to school. Guess what happened next ? Six months later I was in Costa-Rica with my new class helping out in an elementary school and visiting the country. Yep, to everybody’s surprise, I graduated high school, on time. YOU GO MIELO!

After that, I moved back to Montreal and started studies in anthropology. Studies of the human kind and its many cultures. It was very interesting, but as you already know, I hate school and I noticed they’re were not a lot of openings in that field, unless you did 15 years of studies… So I dropped out after a year… Pretty sure that i wouldn’t go back to school, like EVER… Until I discovered an amazing program of business management and organic agriculture. Since I was a drop out, well they didn’t accept me into the program. So I took a year off from school and that’s when I really started «travelling ». I have been doing it on and off since over 5 years now.

I did eventually get in that program and I did love it. I stayed there 2 out of 3 years. The 3rd one was dedicated to my business plan, which i am thinking a lot about, but just not ready to put on paper and work on. So school is gonna have to wait for me, but I am DEFINITELY going back. I’ve been travelling while forking or volunteering in my field. I now know that I want my own business, I love to work outside and in greenhouses. I love understanding how plants work and how to ethically grow our food. I love that the plant system looks so similar to the human anatomic system. I am passionate by what I study and I know what I want to do. That’s hell of a feeling.
